A massive step up in quality from the standard Hakushu 12 yrs, this 18yo is amazingly well-defined (as we've come to expect from Japanese whisky) with deliciously rounded fruit and cereal flavours, at times surprisingly reminiscent of the finest Irish potstill whisky (eg Redbreast 15yo).

A rather stunning well-sherried single malt from GlenDronach. Distilled in 1993, the whisky was laid to rest in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. Twenty-five glorious GlenDronach years passed, then master blender Dr. Rachel Barrie selected the casks to create this expression, which has been bottled at 48.2% ABV. The Spanish oak in which it rested has imparted a rich golden hue to the liquid - and, of course, an exceptional flavour profile.

A BLENDING OF TIME  Inspired by the blending process of Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège, UVA reflected on the concept of “time blending” as a form of creation and a metaphor for the combination of different eaux-de-vie, each one belonging to a specific time in history. These time capsules are not unlike the lights that reach us from distant stars, each one existing in a different time and space, yet we perceive them blended as one.  DYNAMIC FEEL OF HARMONICS  Upon their first visit to the Maison Hennessy in Cognac, Matthew Clark and Maximo Recio were struck by the synergies between their artistic process and the Hennessy Master Blender’s craft. As Hennessy Master Blender Renaud Fillioux de Gironde explained the art of cognac making, the UVA team realized that their explorations of time connect with the craftsmanship of Hennessy’s art.

It was aged in a single sherry hogshead from march 1983 to February 2019, then bottled at cask strength with an outturn of only 133 bottles. The whiskies from Port Ellen have become hugely sought-after, and this one is sure to turn a few heads...
